The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) could be forced to retain head coach Vladimir Petkovic after failing to reach an agreement over the termination of his contract, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Reports indicate that Petkovic is unwilling to end his deal mutually, while the FAF is reluctant to pay off the remaining two years of his contract due to the federation’s current financial situation.
The situation has left Algeria in a difficult position, with the federation reportedly keen on making a coaching change but unable to afford the cost of dismissing the former Switzerland manager.
Should Petkovic remain in charge, former Algeria international defender Anthar Yahia is expected to join his technical staff as a new assistant coach.
The uncertainty has also raised concerns within the national team setup, with some players reportedly expressing their unwillingness to return to the squad if Petkovic continues as head coach.
The FAF must now find a solution to the standoff as preparations continue for Algeria’s upcoming international commitments.
