You Have To Prove Yourself – Super Eagles Legend Tells Okonkwo

Former Nigerian international Peterside Idah has advised newly cleared goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to justify his inclusion whenever he is called up to the Nigeria national football team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Okonkwo, who currently plays for Wrexham AFC, received approval from FIFA on Tuesday to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, Idah stressed that club performance alone would not guarantee success on the international stage, urging the young goalkeeper to step up when given the opportunity.

“Well, he still has to prove himself. Being good for your club is quite different from playing for Nigeria,” Idah said.

“I’ve seen a lot of players perform very well at club level but struggle with the national team. It’s a different ball game entirely.”

Okonkwo is expected to compete for a place in the Super Eagles squad as Nigeria continues preparations for upcoming international fixtures.
