Super Eagles Not Ready For AFCON Title - Rohr By Admin Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has come out boldly to tell Nigerians not to tag the Nigeria’s senior national team favourites to win this year’s Africa Cup of Nations holding in Egypt. The Franco-German football tactician defended that he doesn’t want people that are tipping the Eagles to win the 2019 AFCON to put undue pressure on the young team that does not not have big stars playing in big European clubs but are quality and talented bunch. “We have a little chance to win it like 8 or 10 other countries. Lets stay humble. Its not because we win a friendly against Egypt that we will win the tournament… Generally the favorites are in pot number one and as you can see “We have good players but we don’t have big stars. We don’t have African best players like the Eagles used to have before in the 90s. We don’t have Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Okocha, Victor Ikpeba again. Players like Victor Agali, Victor Moses and Joseph Yobo and these top players are not in these young team of ours”, Rohr disclosed to www.adantesports.com.ng. The Eagles Manager further explained why his young team should be allowed to play and enjoy the 2019 AFCON tournament and let results come in without any pressure of being tipped as favourites to win. “Right now we have players who are playing in the lowly rated leagues in Europe like in Israel, Turkey, Championship in England and now we have Paul Onuachu from Denmark. “We have top teams in Africa like Senegal that has second best player in Africa Mane, Egypt that we beat on Tuesday have the best player in Africa Mohamed Salah. “But our (the Super Eagles) strength is based on team work, team spirit and strategies sometimes. We are one of the youngest team if not the youngest team going to the AFCON in Egypt. So you cannot rate these team absolutely number one to win the tournament in Egypt”. The Eagles gaffer also said that the team has only 30 percent chance of winning the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. “We have a little chance of winning the AFCON in Egypt this year. We don’t have 70 percent chance of nwinning but 30 percent. “Everybody has to be very, very strong. We (Eagles) have to be very strong in the organisational aspect of the team, in our strategies, in our fighting spirit and in our team spirit. “We will try hard to push the young but talented players of the team to the limit to give their best in the tournament but we shouldn’t be called favourites to win the competition. “I have to be realistic based on what we have on ground now, but the team parades talented players capable of springing up surprises if everything is well planned”.
